Single Guys – How to Choose the Perfect Gift for Your Woman
By knowing her personality type you will have a much better chance of picking a present
that she will not only like, but will not go to waste.
There are seven female personality types. Because all seven value different things, naturally some would appreciate some gifts more than others. ‘What woman would say “no” to diamonds or a mink coat?’ The Favourite Aunt would not give five cents for diamonds and she may even belong to the Animal Liberation Society. Next time you go shopping for gifts, take this guide with you. As well as ensuring the gifts are appreciated, you will be getting better value.
Mummy’s Girl: She is pretty, feminine, playful and has a girlish way and quite often a baby voice, no matter what her age. She is easy to influence, lacks strong opinions and loves to please. At work she is not ambitious but eager to be the boss’ pet. She loves babies, puppies and kittens and is a sweet mother.
Being the ‘Protector of Self’ she likes pretty things for herself or whatever her whimsical hobby is at the time. Her gift does not have to be practical, it may be cute or whatever is the latest gimmicky brooch or hair adornment at the time – as long as it is pretty and feminine. If she does not like your gift she won’t tell you, but will complain to others later. But if she is your wife, and you didn’t get her that gift she has been hinting for ‘for ages’, she is just as likely to stage a tantrum – putting as much emotion into the tantrum as she did in the yearning.
Dad’s Girl: Her intelligence is immediately obvious. Dressed in the classical style, she is the epitome of the successful businesswoman or the efficient secretary in her tailored suits. Her straightforward, practical, confident manner is usually accompanied by an authoritative voice so she is easy to identify. She prefers the company of men. I call her the ‘Protector of Men’. She is a strategist, a goal setter and a high achiever, making things happen for herself.
She is practical so gifts for the home would be most acceptable provided that they are attractive and useful and of course, fit in with her latest colour scheme. She is likely to be a business woman so a briefcase, diary, desk set or other business accessory would be most acceptable. If she doesn’t like the gift, she will most probably ask where it was purchased so that she can exchange it for something more suitable.
The Mother: She has a soft rounded appearance; never angular. She wears soft flowing feminine garments, very little make-up and with a wash-and-wear hair style. This delightful creature mothers everyone and in her maternal efforts, she is generous, loyal and reliable to all her friends. Although often shy, she can show surprising spunk in protecting those weaker than herself, in the way the mother fox protects her young, and is first on the scene when nurturing is required
She would prefer you to remember the children and it is their gifts that will be appreciated most. A gift that all the family can enjoy such as a game or a box of sweets would be most acceptable. A recipe book for children’s birthday parties or food that all the family will enjoy. Also something suitable for family picnics would be favoured by the Mother.
The Sister: We all know the strong independent girl-next-door type who fights for her principles and those of her less strong sisters. She may have a slightly tomboyish air, have short hair and wear very little make-up; or, if glamorous, she will still have that fresh, healthy, girl-next-door quality. Full of life, she is daring, challenging and great fun. She is clever and capable of reaching the top of whatever path she cares to follow.
The Sister is not interested in practical gifts for the home, A game or an item suitable for her favourite sport or hobby i.e. golf club covers, a smart ski cap, or the latest swimming goggles. If she reads – buy the most recently-released book by one of her favourite authors. Or if music is her passion, a compact disc of her favourite composer. Anything that she can use while she is enjoying her leisure time would be a popular gift. If she doesn’t like your gift, her thanks will be fairly undemonstrative.
Favourite Aunt: Although she is introverted and prefers her solitude, everyone is drawn to her warmth and inner strength. Her house is pretty and filled with things she has made herself. She is not always easy to recognise unless she wears Indian hand craft garb or favours the many soft flowering layers that hide her figure. She is likely to wear her grey hair with pride. She is not ambitious, may bring home-made cakes and flowers to the office, and never minds making the coffee.
She values the effort put into the gift rather than its commercial value. She prefers to make gifts for her friends and would be delighted to receive a jar of marmalade, home-made sweets or biscuits or a plant from your garden. If you don’t have time to make gifts, shop for the Favourite Aunt at one of the craft markets that have a good range of handmade goods, home-made jams, vinegars etc. She also likes unusual things. If your gift has no appeal she will flippantly tell you who it would suit instead.
The Flirt: This woman does not have to be beautiful (although quite often she is) to attract the most charming man in the room. She has a sensual magnetism. Even when she is scrubbing the floors she manages to look sensual. She sparkles in the company of men, but charms women just as effortlessly. The world is her stage on which she plays the leading role. She has an artistic flair – the protector of love and beauty.
The Flirt would appreciate a glamorous gift, whether it’s a pair of wild earrings, a dramatic scarf, sexy underwear or a decorative ornament that is strikingly beautiful; but definitely not cottage craft or practical. Romantic music will also appeal to her. She will rave about your gift whether she likes it or not and, if she doesn’t, will wrap it up for someone else the next day.
The Wife: She has a comfortable matronly, `I belong’ appearance. Her style and manner of speech is cultivated to enhance her husband’s status. She flourishes with a man on her arm – she believes that she is nothing without a man. She chooses well. He has to be worthy of her dedication.
To please the Wife, choose a gift which is suitable for them both, a bottle of good champagne they can enjoy together, a food hamper of interesting delicacies, a hostess dish useful for entertaining his friends, or a CD of romanticmusic that they can enjoy together. If she tells you that Hubby will love this gift, you will know you have struck the right note.
